Everyone owns a smartphone in today’s era, but have you ever wondered that how old your phone is? Yes, our phones also have age, we can check the age of our smartphone through some simple steps. We always care about purchasing good second hand or refurbished mobile phones, so that we can get all of the specifications that we want in limited budget. But beware! When purchasing a second hand phone, you should always consider the age of the smartphone. Age of the smartphone is always directly proportional to the performance of that specific set.
We will be sharing the advantages of purchasing less aged phones and also the ways to check the age of a phone later in this article. But first, let us see what does the age of a specific phone means!
By age of the specific smartphone, we mean that what is the exact manufacturing date of the smartphone. We all know the launching dates of the specific smartphones, but what we really don’t know that every phone is not manufactured on the specific manufacturing date. The smartphones are manufactured until a specific period of time till a new model comes in the market. So getting to know the exact date of manufacture of the phone is really important for you.
Below are some of the advantages of having a less aged phone:
1. Performance:
The first and the foremost aspect of having a less aged smartphone is its performance. The performance of the less aged smartphone would always be better than the performance of the more aged one. The problem that lies here is the agedness of the components used in the mobile phones.
The mobile phones that we use are composed of different materials and they are built up of different small components. Many of these components wear off with the time. Let it be the components used in the mother board of the phone or the LCD. The performance of phone always goes down with time.
2. Battery Life:
The second most important aspect is regarding the battery life of the smartphones. The battery life of the smartphones really depends upon the age of the smartphones. Although it also depends on other factors as well, like the charging habits of the previous user, etc. But the thing that always worsen the battery life of a smartphone is the age of that phone. With periodic charging for a long time, your device’s battery wore offs.
3. Body:
Yes, the good body conditions are usually another advantage of having a less aged smartphone. The body of the smartphones are usually made up of aluminium and plastic. These two materials wore off not so quickly though, but these can wore off a little bit with to time. Body of the phone almost remains the same with time if it’s used properly.
But we really don’t know about the previous owner of the phone, and how he used the device. More aged the device is, more chances of it being damaged! There are certain things that can be pointed out at first site as broken, whenever we have a look at any phone e.g. display, sides, etc. But there are certain things that we cannot point out so easily, these things include the insides of a mobile phone. The material used in smartphones can be damaged if the phone is too old.
Now that you know the advantages of having a newer phone, we would let you know about how to check the age of your phone or any phone around you!
1. Box Of The Phone:
The first and foremost thing that you should check is the box of your phone. Some mobile manufacturing companies usually put the manufacturing date of each mobile phone on its box. You can easily find the manufacturing date on the back side of the box. If you look at the back of the box of your phone, you will find a white sticker having quite a few words, symbols, digits and bar codes.
On this white sticker you might also find the manufacturing date of the smartphone. Manufacturing date is usually found under the bar codes on the sticker. To confirm the date, if you purchased a second hand phone, you must crosscheck the IMEI number written on the box and in the settings of your phone to confirm if the box is actually of your phone or not. If the IMEI number doesn’t match, then unfortunately the date on the box isn’t the true manufacturing date of your phone. In this case you would have to find the manufacturing date from some other method.
2. Settings:
In some phones you might find the manufacturing date of your device in the settings app. The location where the manufacturing date might have been written varies though in every device. You would have to spend some time finding it.
The manufacturing date can be usually found in the “About Phone” tab in settings. You can search the manufacturing date in that, but in some phone the manufacturing date isn’t written straight away. You have to apply certain formulas to get the manufacturing date of your phone.
One such example is of Apple iPhones. You might find the manufacturing dates of iPhones in their serial numbers. The serial numbers are clearly shown in the About Phone part in setting of iPhones. The third digit of the serial number usually expresses about the manufacturing year e.g. 4 means 2014, 6 means 2016, and so on. Moreover, the fourth digit usually denotes the specific week of the year in which the iPhone was manufactured.
So, in iPhone’s case you would have to be much vigilant to find its manufacturing date. Or the simpler way is to search on Google. Just write the make and model of your phone and the serial number of your mobile phone. Usually the OEMs give this facility to the mobile phone owners to know about the history of their devices.
3. Applications:
There are certain applications on Play Store that might help you in finding the age of your mobile phone. One of such app available on Play Store is “Phone info *Samsung*”, this app usually works for the Samsung’s manufactured smart phones. To find the manufacturing date of your phone, you simply have to download the application on your Samsung smartphone. When you open it, go to the “general” tab. You find the date of manufacturing of your Samsung phone there written e.g. 2016.03.01.
But this application is only tested on Samsung smartphone. You would have to check if the other manufacturer’s info apps show the manufacturing date of those phones or not.
4. Manufacturing Codes:
Yes, if you know the manufacturing code of your smartphone, you might be able to find the manufacturing date of your smartphone. We used the word ‘might’ as manufacturing codes are usually not just OEM specific, they might be also model specific.
But you can try by entering ‘*#manufacturingcode#* or *#*#manufacturingcode#*#* into the dialler pad of your smartphone. Through this the service menu would be opened. You can easily check the manufacturing date of your smartphone through this.
If this doesn’t work as well, you would then have to look for the specific manufacturing code of your phone through Google and try to do this again.
Now that you know the way of checking the manufacturing date of your phone, and that you also know the benefits of having a less aged phone, you can be more careful when buying a second hand phone.
